During the COVID-19 pandemic, Zhejiang University School of Medicine and the University of Pittsburgh jointly launched an online exchange international workshop project. This project aims to establish an online model for international joint training of graduate students, explore a long-term cooperation mechanism, open the door for scientific research, broaden their scientific research horizons, and stimulate their enthusiasm for scientific research. The project was established by Prof. SHU Qiang，Zhejiang University School of Medicine，the Children’s Hospital/ School of  Pediatric and Prof. FAN, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

The Summer International Exchange Workshops in the Children’s Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine has been held during July and August. The professors described the framework of scientific research for the students in detail.On July 1, 2021, Prof. FAN from gave the first online lecture, introducing the scientific research thinking, design and practice in the field of medicine.On July 15, 2021, Prof. FAN took the writing and publication of medical papers as the theme, and introduced the medical journals for publication.On July 29, 2021, continuing the content of the previous class, Prof. FAN introduced practical content such as the interpretation of experimental results and the writing of medical papers.On August 12, 2021, in order to exercise students' ability to participate in academic conferences, Prof. FAN gave a keynote speech on how to conduct oral presentations, poster presentations, and question and answer skills in academic conferences.On August 23, 2021, Prof. SHU deliver a lecture entitled Comprehensive Prevention and Treatment of Birth Defects , introducing the current status of the field of pediatrics and the development of hospital disciplines.

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center has ranked among the top five in NIH funding since 1998. It is the largest training base for doctors and graduate students in the United States. And the Pittsburgh Children's Hospital is the leading center for pediatric organ transplantation, cancer, and rare diseases in the world.
