Zhejiang University School of Medicine (ZUSM) founded in 1912, is one of China’s top higher medical education institutions, as well as one of its oldest. Located in Hangzhou – one of China’s most picturesque cities – ZUSM is organized across School of Basic Medical Sciences, School of Brian Science & Brain Medicine, School of Public Health, School of Nursing, seven clinical medical schools (School of Clinical Medicine, School of Obstetrics and Gynecology, School of Pediatrics, School of Stomatology) and a health care partnership network composing of 7 affiliated hospitals, 9 non-direct affiliated hospitals and 5 cooperated hospitals. It is home to more than 28,000 faculty members (including 2,7000+ faculty and staff in affiliated hospitals) and over 8,000 students.
ZUSM is committed to developing and empowering future physician-scientists, medical leaders and public health pioneers to meet tomorrow medical revolution. The 8-year MD program, piloted in China with the “4+4” model provides Medicine + X possibilities and multiple pathways. Moreover, in collaboration with University of Oxford, University of Toronto, Yale University, University of Edinburgh etc., we are exploring new path of medical education and striving to educate medical students with global vision and better understanding the basis of health and disease.
All members of the ZUSM community are engaged in creating new knowledge. Researchers and clinician-scientists at ZUSM and its affiliates work across disciplines to expand the frontiers of scientific understanding while moving the most promising breakthroughs into tangible health. Both the basic medical science and clinical medicine disciplines were selected for China’s “Double First-class” Initiative and the clinical medicine discipline was graded A+ (ranked the first) in national assessment organized by Chinese Ministry of Education. As part of comprehensive ZJU, ZUSM is proud of engaging in interdisciplinary research with its 8 institutes and centers including Medical Center, Institute of Translational Medicine, Institute of Neuroscience and Technology, Institute of Genetics, Cancer Research Center, etc. While 2 projects (Precision Medicine and Intelligence Convergence) were selected as the Initiatives-Innovation 2030 of ZJU, aiming at solving future challenges puzzling all mankind by cross-disciplinary innovation and sparking lights in tomorrow's medical breakthroughs.
The health and well-being of the local, regional, national and international community remains our highest priority. ZUSM 7 affiliated hospitals with its health care partnership networksprovide health care and medical training to communities, trying to build a community of shared future for mankind. Not only are we deeply engaged in many partnerships and collaborations that share a broad reach across Hangzhou, Zhejiang and the nation, but also we are an active part in the global fight against COVID-19 pandemic as well as sending medical experts’ team to Mali, Libya, the Republic of Namibia and remote areas in China for medicine supporting.
We believe that every global partner is unique and each project is irreplaceable. ZUSM has partnerships in place with more than 40 universities and institutions worldwide. With more than 500 international students, and around 1,350 faculty and students participate annually in various overseas mobility programs.
With vast medical talent, alumni, extensive network of affiliates, ZUSM is dedicated to translating discoveries into medicines and programs that will alleviate suffering caused by diseases and improve future health worldwide from understanding biomedical mechanism to developing clinical therapies and interventions; from understanding the availability of health care to developing systems to populations, and ambitious to steer medicine education and research in directions that will benefit locally, nationally and globally.
