April 26th, Prof. Peter Leung, from Faculty of Medicine, at the University of British Columbia (UBC) visited Women’s Hospital School of Medicine Zhejiang University. Prof. Peter Leung has served on many national and international organizations, including as President of the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society, Director of the Society for the Study of Reproduction, Director of the Ovarian Workshops in the USA, temporary advisor to the World Health Organization, Fellow of the Canadian Academy for Health Sciences, and Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. Since the 90s of last century, he has cooperated with Women’s Hospital School of Medicine Zhejiang University closely and promoted the international cooperation and communication between the hospital and the Obstetrics and Gynecology department of UBC.
In the morning, Jun Lin who is the dean, Jian Xu who is the associate dean, Xiaodong Cheng who is the associate dean, Dan Zhang who is the assistant of dean, Yimin Zhu who is the associate director and Xiaoming Zhu who is the associate section director from Women’s Hospital School of Medicine Zhejiang University played the host. During the meeting, Prof. Leung provided good suggestions in the perspective of joint lab construction, scientific research management and motivation, talent exchange and training, joint training of postgraduates, international cooperation project and so on.
In the afternoon, Prof. Leung gave an academic report entitled “the role of TGF-βsuperfamily in regulating the invasion of human trophoblast cells”. After reporting, he also encouraged young doctors and postgraduates to apply for the post-doctor program and joint training program of postgraduates in UBC.
Prof. Peter Leung was appointed as chair professor by Zhejiang University. The term of employment is three years. This year, he will conduct a three-month teaching and scientific research in Zhejiang University and Women’s Hospital School of Medicine Zhejiang University. It is believed that the introduction of overseas talent will promote an international vision for our colleagues and international development for the hospital.
